Meta Ads

Meta's AI can edit your ads, and from Oct 30 you own the result

Meta's AI can rewrite, translate and add images to your Facebook and Instagram ads. Starting October 30, Meta's updated terms say that whatever it produces is your responsibility, including changes from features Meta turned on for you.

What changed

Meta updated its Commercial Terms, the rules every advertiser agrees to by running ads. The new version adds a section on AI features, and it takes effect October 30, 2026. You don't sign anything; continuing to run ads after the notice counts as accepting.

According to PPC Land's reporting:

  • Previously, you were responsible for AI-made content when you chose to use Meta's AI creative tools. The new section drops that condition: you're responsible for what the AI creates or changes in your ads, whether or not you turned the feature on.
  • Meta's terms acknowledge these features "may make mistakes" and may not produce accurate or suitable results.
  • The edits advertisers have reported include added links, translated copy, and new images or carousels generated from their photos. Some say they saw these on campaigns where they hadn't enabled anything.

Separately, Meta is turning on in-app product browsing for existing ads on October 28, unless you opt out. When it's on, a tap on an eligible ad opens product details inside Facebook or Instagram instead of taking the person to your website.

What it means for you

If your ads only ever say what you wrote, nothing here bites. The risk is the gap between what you approved and what actually runs. An AI-rewritten line that promises "same-day service" when you can't deliver it, or a translated ad with a claim that doesn't hold up, is now clearly your problem, not Meta's.

For businesses in regulated fields (health, legal, finance, home services with licensing rules), that matters more, because a wrong claim can cost more than a refund.

In-app browsing matters if your website is where people book or call. Keeping people inside Meta's app may help or hurt; Meta hasn't published results for service businesses, so treat it as an experiment rather than a default.

What to do

  1. Review every active ad this week. In Ads Manager, open each ad and look at the creative enhancements section (Meta groups these under Advantage+ creative). Meta says each feature can be switched off individually.
  2. Switch off what you didn't choose. Some options sit in collapsed menus, so expand everything before you decide.
  3. Preview the ad in every placement (Feed, Stories, Reels) and read what's actually shown, not just what you typed.
  4. Decide on in-app browsing on purpose. If people book through your website, check whether browsing is on for your ads and switch it off if you want taps to reach your site. Meta hasn't published step-by-step instructions, so if you can't find the setting, ask Meta's support to point you to it.
  5. Make it a monthly habit. New AI features tend to arrive switched on. A ten-minute review once a month catches them.
